Postcards from France... Unravel the mysteries of 40 years!
I have come across a very interesting bundle of old postcards.
Upon closer inspection, I was able to sort them out into date order and noticed that they were all to the same person and, mostly, from one other person.
There are around 118 postally used postcards dating from 1945 to 1982 and another 48 cards that are not dated or posted, but written on.
All of these cards are written in French and were posted from some truly amazing places, including:
The Pyrenees, Nice, Chamonix, Strasburg, Bordeaux, London, The Lake District, Biarritz, Cornwall, Costa Brava, Cote D’Azur, Scotland, Adelaide (Australia), Luxemburg, Grenoble and many more!

Of course, what intrigues me is what these cards say.
Being written in French they will take some time and expertise being translated, but whoever wrote them was a prolific writer and had a lot to say as most cards are squeezed full of handwriting! |
On this webpage I have shown scans of a handful of the cards. I really feel that there is the potential to, at the very least, publish a book of the cards and their translations. But once they have been translated who knows what story will unfold over nearly 40 years…
The pictures alone show some great images of times gone by, people, places and transportation.

Also of potential interest is who they were sent to. The recipients name is Renee Benoit, an internet search brings up the story of a Renee Benoit who meets Prince Menelek of Abyssinia and is taken to live in Paris in the early 1900s.
I don’t know if this is true and there are many Renee Benoits… but who knows!? |
I look forward to hearing from anyone with any information or who is interested in this project, either during the process or once completed!
